At long last, I’m posting some of the work from my first “professional” commission a couple of months ago. The series of illustrations can be seen in this month’s edition of NUS Spotlight magazine, and all discuss the union’s pioneering digital initiatives to further connect students. Props to the AD, Alex Trembath and the magazine designers, who have really enhanced my illustrations.

I’m on the look out for editorial commissions at the moment, so if anyone reading this is looking to commission illustration, do get in touch!

‘Game Movies that have to happen.’

Featured work: PSM3 (playstation 3 magazine)

A while ago I mentioned being busy doing a live brief but was keeping it a secret until it was published. Well it has now been published!

Love this! Must have been so much fun to work on.

I had an illustration in yesterday’s New York Times Business Section (alongside Kali, which is sweet). It was for an article called Coining Terminology for Life on the Web, and it was kinda about how startups try to either invent or appropriate bits of language that they think will “go viral.” Ok, cool.

A speculative book cover design I was working on last week. I first became aware of the book having watched the excellent TV series (which borrows very little from the books as a matter of fact) and saw that there doesn’t seem to have been a new cover design since the 80s. I was in need of another book cover to even out my portfolio, so what a great opportunity! In remaining faithful to the book, there’s no Stephan Mangan or Darren Boyd though, I’m afraid!
*Potentially unpopular opinion* I didn’t like the book; I just can’t get on with Douglas Adams’s work unfortunately.. It was a fun cover to work on nonetheless!

My new business cards have arrived! There are four designs in total; two of which you can see on this (rather poor) photo, as well as the back. The idea of the back was the further emphasise my love of technology culture as well as conceptual thinking, so I made a little smartphone to complement the shape of the cards. Unfortunately the border detail has been cut off on a good number of them, despite being set over 1mm from the bleed area. No real problem, regardless; I only ordered a relatively small number this time, so I can fix/remove this next time round.

A recent editorial - about perceived dangers of using smartphones.
This will also double up as a business card design.
